Message from the President

It is essential not only to utilize IT technology but also to drive Digital Transformation (DX) to transform businesses and generate new value. Given the industrial assets Japan possesses and the diligent characteristics of its people, there is an urgent need for the development of DX professionals, particularly in the manufacturing sector.

Recognizing this situation, Nippon Institute of Technology established a Data Science Department in 2022. Additionally, they have created Data Science courses in their existing six departments to foster professionals who can apply their expertise in society.

In a society where increased workforce mobility is predicted, cultivating students with a lifelong learning mindset is also a challenge. The acquisition of numerous successful experiences during their student years is considered crucial. In the College Master Program, 13 workshops, such as the Formula Workshop for building Formula machines, have been introduced. These facilities are designed to provide opportunities for students to work on what they love and excel at. The students experiencethe satisfaction of turning their efforts into tangible results along with the joy of collaborating with peers. Nippon Institute of Technology offers numerous avenues for individuals to realize their dreams.

The NIT’s research power that connects with society

The foundation of the Nippon Institute of Technology is “practical engineering” that leverages realistic technology to generate new value. As a university that drives the foundational technology of the future, we took part in the University Research Branding Project in 2017 under the concept of “Developing and applying solid-state battery technologies as a next-generation power source.” For the project, we put some of our best foundational technologies, such as thin-film synthesis and metalworking, to use in advanced scientific techniques. The practical application of technology requires verification techniques across a variety of trials: Why does this work? What do we need to improve its performance? Under what sort of conditions can we maintain this response? Those techniques, equipment, and know-how exist at our university. To establish new technologies, we are pouring effort into areas of foundational technology that are difficult for companies to implement.

But it is not just about making efforts in new fields. To achieve a universality that brings comfort to the lives of everyone, we are developing projects that take on the challenges our society faces (such as supporting an aging society through the cooperation of diverse occupations, creating software for the education of people with disabilities, and manufacturing devices used in physical rehabilitation) and advancing such efforts through coordination with fields like robotics and computer engineering.
