Canadian Studies Institute — A foreign base for learning English and cultural awareness

Canada is consistently ranked one of the top countries in the world to live in. It is a vast nation—the world’s second largest by area—and home to 36 million people from diverse ethnic backgrounds. The country is widely known and praised for its educational system in which powerful methodologies are implemented within a culturally inclusive environment.

In June 1996, NIT established a learning institute in Crowsnest Pass, a small town located on the southern tip of the Canadian Rockies in the southwest corner of Alberta, as a site for learning English and cultural awareness. Since then, we have developed several unique learning programs for foreign languages and cultural studies in order to deepen our connections with the junior-high schools, high schools, and universities in the province of Alberta.

Characteristics of the Canada Campus

Main Destinations for Studying Abroad

Southern Alberta Institute of Technology

Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT)Calgary

Established in 1916, SAIT is a world leader in applied education, providing over 100 career programs, 1,300 continuing-education courses, and corporate-training courses to more than 200 companies every year. Located near the heart of Calgary, the school is replete with modern facilities and secure living accommodations, giving peace of mind to foreign students. And since about 20% of its students hail from various overseas countries, it is the perfect environment for learning about other cultures.

SAIT offers a short-stay summer camp program that allows students to not only learn a foreign language (English) but also engage in a variety of extracurricular activities and experience different cultures firsthand by interacting with local students and those from other countries.

It is also a potential destination for graduates of Komaba High School.

Palliser Regional Schools

Lethbridge (public high schools in the Palliser School Division)

Palliser Regional Schools have a lot to offer, including their own unique programs for international students as well as a learning environment that features high-quality instruction and strong support.

Palliser is known for achieving excellent results, including some of the highest test scores in Alberta.

Offering a homestay in a safe environment with small class sizes and a complete support system, Palliser Regional Schools are a great destination for students seeking a rich study-abroad experience.

Students who participate in the program enroll in a junior high or high school in the area and study the same curriculum as their local classmates. Through their homestay, they are placed in an environment where Japanese is not used at all, which lets them directly experience the English language and other cultures in a way that is simply not possible in Japan.

Lethbridge College

Lethbridge College) Lethbridge

With around 7,000 enrolled students, Lethbridge College offers over 80 career-training courses and a complete set of programs for students looking to enroll in the University of Lethbridge or other universities in Alberta. Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains and close to the United States border, Lethbridge is an energetic community of about 100,000 people.
